Language of love
February is known
for being the month of LOVE. Every Tuesday for the past six years
Arlene Hoel, Stefani Lee, Margaret Pierce and Pat Lysell, drive
to Dixon Circle, one of Dallas' crime-area streets, and in a demonstration
of love teach English as a Second Language at Sunny Acres Community
Center. In The City For Good is a supporting partner to Sunny
Acres.

When talking with the
ESL volunteers it is evident they love teaching these classes
to those who otherwise would not receive this important help.
It is also evident that other volunteers are needed.. I was blessed
to personally share in the ESL class February 12th and worked
one-on-one with Martha, a beginning student. Her level of English
matched my level of Spanish and I worried that I might confuse
her more than help her. We were both willing to try and I shouldn't
have worried; true ESL experts were close by. Martha and I did
well together; she learned some English and I learned some Spanish.
This experience reminded me that you don't have to be an expert
to have an impact on another person's life; you just have to be
willing to try.
Sunny Acres provides
computer and GED classes, and assists job seekers with resume
writing. The students are eager to learn and volunteer teachers
are needed. Sunny Acres has a children's summer program, seniors'
activities programs and safety association, and trains those looking
for jobs how to apply online. The dedication of the ESL volunteers
is an important part of these efforts and is one way in which
we demonstrate our love and concern for our fellow persons. Love
is not just a spoken word; it is demonstrated through action.
Thank you to Arlene, Stefani, Margaret and Pat for demonstrating
your Love for the Lord's children.
