Park South YMCA

KITCHEN REMODEL 2019

We have proposed, and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has agreed, that In The City For Good, Inc. will completely renovate the existing inadequate kitchen facility at  the Park South YMCA, to enable the YMCA to provide meals for its expanded early childhood education classes and after-school programs.  Park South Y’s educational and after-school programs currently serve over 400 meals daily to more than 200 children participating in those programs, all of which are prepared in the Y’s inadequate existing kitchen.  Over 100 children enrolled in the Y’s full-day early childhood education classes receive three full meals daily, prepared and served by the Y.  Proper nutrition is vitally important for effective learning at any age, and particularly so for young children living in disadvantaged areas of the city, who may not receive optimal nutrition at home.  Part of the Park South YMCA’s commitment to early childhood education involves providing nutritious meals to its students, but the food preparation facility at the Y cannot handle the demands being placed on it.

In The City For Good, Inc. proposes to work with its construction partner, the Trammell Crow Company, to complete a fully renovated and properly equipped commercial kitchen, which will be owned and operated by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.

Renovations include equipping of a modern code-compliant commercial kitchen; upgrading adjacent rest rooms to code and accessibility standards; and add the addition of a required ramp to the existing exterior loading dock.
